DOT Process
Our team at Speck Design received a contract to craft DOT, an innovative POS system customized for barbershops.

The Parameters
We were not only tasked with housing an iPad pro and the necessary components but to also consider the user experience.

iPad Pro
Since this unit is meant for a busy barber shop setting the client wanted our team to consider durability for mounting the device and portability for the staff to be able to carry around the unit to customers.

The Opportunity
Our goal was to elevate the customer transaction process by emphasizing brand consistency, technological progress, and user accessibility.

Ethnographic Research
We looked at some of the most prestigious barbershops out there to get a good understand of the atmosphere, aesthetic and culture to gain valuable insights before embarking on our ideation process.

After doing a deep dive in the ethnographic studies we also worked with the client to build an ideal look and feel.

Simplicity
We swiftly embarked on brainstorming various stand and case designs, keeping in mind the essentials: accommodating an iPad, a battery, a wireless payment component, and a camera. As we honed in on promising elements from initial sketches, we progressed to crafting more detailed and refined concepts.

Once we settled on a general idea, we moved straight to CAD and Keyshot. This helped us see the design in 3D and start playing with colors, materials, and finishes.

We also began working out assembly details alongside choosing colors, materials, and finishes.

To further our understanding of the form we 3D printed the form on our FDM printer and assembled all of the pieces together.

DOT - POS System
A point-of-sale (POS) system crafted to effortlessly blend with the distinct barbershops atmosphere.
This POS system was designed to streamline the daily transactions within a barbershop setting.
Sporting a more masculine aesthetic, this unit aimed to uphold brand consistency and user-friendliness, all while accommodating an iPad Pro.
